Meet Mark Fenske

This is the man who gave me a love for communication.

He appreciates and recognizes great things. He's one of those guys whose standards are so impossibly high that he operates on a different planet.

He's started agencies, directed music videos, was a very early employee at Wieden+Kennedy, taught, gone back to Wieden+Kennedy, and then taught again.

He taught me a huge portion of what I know. He's also the most quotable person I've ever met.

Get to know him:

When he does update his blog, it's always something worth reading and putting into practice.

Some copywriting advice for budding art directors (and everyone else)

I completely agree with this article. Just take it easy with the rhyming, OK?

Squeeze This

Hey Everyone.

Good class last night. Horrible lies, but a good class. It's going to be a worthy semester.

A couple of things.

First, get the book "Hey Whipple, Squeeze This" as quickly as you can. Then read it cover to cover. It will put you in a much better mode of thinking for our class. If you don't read this very early in the semester, you're putting yourself at a distinct disadvantage both in our class and professionally in the future.

So for those of you who need "motivation," I'm assigning the first three chapters for next week. You'll be quizzed on it at the next class. I know, I know, you've got your 21 marker comps to do, but I promise it's a quick read, and it will be an easy quiz, so don't worry. Just read the first three chapters.

Second. Really try to blow Kiran and me away next week with your ideas. I mean, stretch yourself. I want to see what you can do. Make your ideas smart, smart-funny, stupid-smart, or just totally kick-ass. Go out on a limb if you want. Just make sure they actually get back to a product benefit. Creativity = original + smart.

And that's really it. I'm going to be adding you all as admins to this blog (I think) so you can post stuff for your classmates and esteemed professors to comment on.

Make this class a top priority in your life right now, and you'll be amazed where your efforts will take you.

Start posting shit. I don't care what it is, as long as it's cool. Here's something I found today:
